Interview contents
Yi-jie: how old are you now?
utas yawei:I am 82 years now. Very old! I almost
cannot walk.
Jun-an: Do you know the story about the
Ishamo-Bridge? Could you tell us?
utas yawei:Of
course I am familiar with the story about the Isshamo-Bridge. It is about
Ishamo, the father of teacher Hui-rui Lai. At that time, the traffic condition
of Kiyang was not satisfactory. There was only a hanging bridge connecting
Kiyang and the outside world. One day, Ishamo wanted to cross the bridge to the
grocery for exchange of some rice. It was fine at the beginning. But it was
stormy when Ishamo wanted to come back. The storekeeper asked him to stay in
his shop, but Ishamo insisted on returning to the tribe at once. So he crossed
the bridge in the stormy weather. When he was on the half way of the bridge, he
dropped into the water and was died. Two young persons of the tribe witnessed
this situation and saved him from the water. He was heavily hurt and passed
away in his room on that night due to the poor medical condition of the time.
This is the story about Isamo-Bridge.
Yu-wen: Why did you build a bridge to
memorize Ishamo and why did not you use another name?
utas
yawei:Because the village office
planned to name a new bridge and heard about the story of Ishamo, and finally
named it as Ishamo.
Jun-ying: could you tell us
something in the end?
utas yawei:I
hope all children are prudent and see if you are in danger before doing
something. Do not make fun of you own life. It is most important to learn
everything with patience and do not forget our culture and language.

Interview about
Yi-jie: The grandpa is a good man. He
prepared a lot of dessert and drinks for us. It’s great! He knew a lot
about
Jun-an: The story about
Yu-wen: During the interview,
everybody listened silently to the grandpa. We were deeply attracted by his
story. I knew a lot about the bridge. Today our schoolmaster also participated
in this interview. The grandfather always told us that we were good students
and needed to make more efforts for our future.
Jun-ying: It seems that the grandpa
knows a lot of things. You see, He is not a talker but his mind is filled with
wisdom. We really admire him. Director Wang says that the grandpa is able to
weave bines. We will try my best to learn the handicraft of Atayal tribe.
