本篇圖文寄自佛光山菲律賓住持妙淨法師(Ven. Miao Jing)。

            Omituofo!
January and February were very busy months yet meaningful to me.  I joined Ven. Miao Guang, Ven. Miao Zhe, Andrea and Jennifer, the senior graduates of Fo Guang Shan University, on a series of Dharma lecture workshop in the Philippines. We went to the schools and universities in Iloilo, Bacolod, Cebu and Manila. Our talks and activities were all enriching and successful.
My two most unforgettable experiences were our meeting with the juveniles in Cebu and the inter-faith conference at the University of Santo Tomas in Manila. The juveniles were very enthusiastic and attentive to the activities that we conducted. They showed us their sweetest smiles and laughter and the jail warden was very thankful with teary eyed at the scene. It was indeed very inspiring because I know the adolescents had enjoyed the talk and learned from the stories we told them. Secondly, the inter-faith dialogue at the University of Santo Tomas was also very touching and mind-stirring. It was mind-stirring because the participants asked questions about the history of Buddhism and Catholicism and they also raised comparative queries. It was very touching because they showed much interest in our discussion in spite of the religious differences. Many students even voiced out their interest to study Buddhism in the future.
After the culmination of the lectures, I extended my stay to help at Manila Mabuhay temple .  Through the guardianship of Ven. Miao Jing, who is both dynamic and compassionate, I had learned on planning, decision-making, co-worker relating, and focusing. With Ven. Miao Jing’s encouragements, I was able to give talk to university students, encode names and information about the Three Acts of Goodness ambassadors, and conduct activities. However, I also encountered trials. I was honored to be invited as the Philippines representative to the World Championship of Performing Arts in the United States in July. But my application for the US visa was denied because I am single and have no parental support. Fortunately, friends from the BLIA and the temple construction team had helped me cope emotionally. Another trial was helping at the Cebu temple with the Chinese New Year celebration. It was a big event with Disney characters parade, Broadway musical medley, bazaars, booths, games and lots of other activities, but there were not enough volunteers. Most of us had to handle additional work outside of our responsibilities that led to some problems and miscommunications. After the event, all of the volunteers gathered to evaluate and give feedback. It was a constructive process and we shared each others’ happiness and sentiments.
I am indeed very grateful to Ven. Miao Guang, Ven. Yung Guang, and Ven. Miao Jing , for giving me the opportunity to help and learn during my short visit. It was truly enriching. I am greatly inspired by the abbess, Ven. Miao Jing, who is always walking around, checking leaks, dealing with construction matters, signing checks, planning temple activities and discussing and consoling with others, from BLIA members to kitchen workers. She is a multi-talented person and I hope I can be like her even in a small way. Finally, I am glad that I have grown from my experiences and shall continue growing and learning. I have learned that life is never too short to do all the things that will make others happy. Little good deeds matter most and faith is the essence of life’s fullness.
